Located in the heritage-listed Tyne House – a 1915, Chicago-style brick federation warehouse on Wentworth Street in Surry Hills – this 19-storey, 264-room hotel is Australia’s first Ace Hotel.
Designed by Bates Smart, the hotel consists of a 10-storey tower stepped back from the existing nine-storey warehouse façade. With a rooftop bar and event space, as well as a restaurant, bar, and coffee shop, all spaces focus on collective gathering and are open to both the public and guests.
The architecture responds to Ace Hotels’ approach of blending the historic with the contemporary to create authentic and soulful experiences that reflect the essence of the city they’re in. A charcoal terracotta-clad façade references the masonry character of the Surry Hills neighbourhood and offers a modern interpretation of the surrounding brick facades.
Foreseeing a demand for lifestyle-driven hotels which place a greater emphasis on experience, culture and art, Time & Place is excited to be bringing Ace Hotel’s unique approach to Australia.
The Ace Hotel Sydney needs to respect and be part of its community. We’re not doing an Ace Hotel in Surry Hills; we’re doing a Surry Hills hotel that is Ace.
